How can I export lighting for games?

Postby Rush3fan on Thu Mar 11, 2010 5:50 am

Great!! I can make amazing shadows in my model, only.... What's the point?
I might consider buying this software if I knew how to export the model with the shadows as textures.
Anyone know how??
Or should this be a requested feature?

LightUp exports Autodesk FBX files with multi-texture materials - which is typically what lightmapping game engines use.

So depending on your target game engine, you'll need some sort of importer that honors the 2 texture per material that FBX specifies.

I'm using 3drad which simply can blend 2 .X models together. So I just need 1 model with the lightmaps and none of the existing textures.

ok, but it will only blend if they have exactly the same topology. If you export one with 1 tool and the lighting with another tool and they happen to triangulate differently, you're out of luck.

I guess we could have a mode in LightUp to export just diffuse textures, and/or just lightmaps..

Where does 3drad get the normalmaps from?

3drad uses one normalmap per model. All you do is replace the defult normalmap with the one you want to use. It's in the skinmesh data file. It tiles on the same co-ordinates as the diffuse map.

...And looks like it does blend with the shadowmaps.
